I’M A GOLDEN MINISTER – WIKE BOASTS AS FCT NEARS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described himself as a “golden minister”, boasting that his leadership coincides with significant milestones both in Rivers State and the FCT.
Speaking on Thursday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) in Katampe District, Wike reflected on his unique political journey.
The former Rivers State governor noted that he held office when Rivers marked its 50th anniversary, and now, as FCT Minister, he will oversee Abuja’s 50th anniversary celebration next February 2026.
“Some of us have been very lucky. We are golden governors and now golden ministers — it’s not everybody that will be that lucky,” Wike declared.
He attributed his good fortune to divine favor and urged people not to envy him.
“Some of you were governors when your state was not up to 50 years, some were council chairmen before your states attained that age. But we became governor when our state attained the golden jubilee and now minister when the FCT will attain its golden jubilee. So you ask yourself — are we not so loved by God?”
The minister added with confidence:
“You may sit on my seat, but that does not mean you are loved specially like you are loved by God.”
Wike, known for his fiery speeches and self-assured tone, has continued to make headlines since assuming office as FCT Minister in 2023, driving several infrastructure projects across Abuja while maintaining a strong political presence nationally.
