Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has declared that he would rather step away from politics than align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour — who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — stressed that his political ideology is completely different from Tinubu’s.

“No. I’ll rather go and focus on my business, work, and my family; that would be a complete waste of time,” he said when asked if he could ever work with Tinubu.

According to him, his only mission in politics is to restore Lagos to its old glory and ensure that the state’s wealth is used for the benefit of its people.

GRV also revealed that his defection to ADC was done with the blessing of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, adding that they are working together to build a strong coalition for the opposition ahead of future elections.

Meanwhile, the politician alleged that police officers supervised an attack on him and his supporters during a programme in Alimosho over the weekend. The Lagos State Police Command has since denied the claim.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
