ILE-IFE TO HOST INAUGURAL 5KM CULTURAL ROAD RACE DURING OLOJO FESTIVAL
The historic city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, is set to host the first-ever Ife Road Race, a 5-kilometre cultural run, scheduled for September 25 in conjunction with the renowned Olojo Festival.
Designed to celebrate Yoruba heritage while encouraging fitness and youth development, the event aims to unearth new athletic talent and foster a long-term system of support through training and mentorship.
The initiative is the brainchild of Adeleke Odewade, a committed youth empowerment advocate, and has been endorsed by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
“Our society lacks the structures to discover and develop young talent,” said Odewade. “This race is more than just a competition—it’s the start of a continuous journey of coaching and guidance for emerging athletes.”
Organised in collaboration with the Alade’fa Athletic Family Initiative, the race welcomes young people, amateur runners, and professionals alike. Participants will receive certificates of participation, with cash prizes awarded to winners in various categories.
The race route is planned to highlight some of Ile-Ife’s iconic cultural landmarks, giving runners a scenic and symbolic tour of the ancient city.
Organisers are calling on corporate sponsors, government bodies, brands, and philanthropists to support the event through partnership and sponsorship.
Registration is now open on the official race platforms for all interested participants.
