IKEJA ELECTRIC STARTS REPAYMENT SCHEME FOR CUSTOMERS WHO BOUGHT METERS
Ikeja Electric Plc has commenced the process of reimbursing customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider programme. The electricity distribution company announced the development during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, a monthly session organised to provide customers with operational updates, explain issues affecting service delivery and address concerns raised by consumers.
According to the company, customers who qualify for the refund will receive it through credits added to their subsequent vending transactions throughout the approved repayment period. Ikeja Electric said the arrangement is designed to return the eligible meter payments to customers gradually through their electricity vending activities rather than through a separate cash payment.
The company also explained that customers can track the progress of their refunds online by using either their meter number or account number. The refund dashboard provides information including the original meter cost, the number of refunds already processed, the amount being refunded each month, the total amount received so far and the date of the most recent refund. Customers will also receive the applicable refund token through the phone number or email address registered with Ikeja Electric.
Ikeja Electric advised customers who experience difficulties or have questions concerning their Meter Asset Provider refunds to make use of the company’s official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office for assistance. The company used the stakeholder engagement to also draw attention to electrical safety following recent fatal incidents involving people who attempted to carry out unauthorised work around its network.
The Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, Olaniyi Olayiwola, warned customers against allowing unqualified or unauthorised electricians to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations or engage in illegal connections. He urged customers to report unsafe activities to the company rather than attempting to intervene themselves. Olayiwola also called on communities to maintain sufficient clearance around high-voltage power lines, noting that encroachment on electricity infrastructure and inadequate right-of-way remain major safety concerns. Meanwhile, the Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, encouraged customers to rely on Ikeja Electric’s official communication and complaint channels for accurate information and timely resolution of their concerns.
