Ikeja Electric Plc has begun refunding customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider programme.

The electricity distribution company announced the development during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, where it provided updates on metering, customer service and safety. Eligible customers will receive their refunds through credits applied to their electricity vending transactions over the approved refund period.

Customers can track their refund status online using their meter or account numbers. The refund dashboard provides information including the meter cost, number of refunds, monthly refund amount, total amount received and the date of the last refund.

Ikeja Electric said customers with concerns about their refunds could use its official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office for assistance.

The company also warned customers against using unauthorised electricians for work on electricity poles, power lines and other installations. It said recent incidents involving unsafe electrical activities had resulted in fatalities.

The refunds are part of the regulatory process for reimbursing customers who paid for meters under the MAP scheme. NERC had directed electricity distribution companies to clear outstanding meter reimbursements through energy credits.
