IGNATIUS AJURU UNIVERSITY EXPELS FINAL-YEAR STUDENT OVER DAMAGING SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT
University Senate revokes matriculation status of English Department student following viral video claims regarding academic misconduct and project supervision fees
The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, over the creation and publication of social media content deemed damaging to the reputation of the institution.
The disciplinary action was finalized following an official review of a viral video interview in which the student, enrolled in the Department of English and Literary Studies, made contentious claims regarding her undergraduate research project.
In the circulated video, the student asserted that her assigned project topic was "Citizenship" and claimed that her academic supervisor was personally writing the project on her behalf in exchange for a fee of 150,000 Naira.
In an official statement released by the university management, authorities refuted the allegations, clarifying that no such project topic exists within the Department of English and Literary Studies and describing the video content as false, malicious, and detrimental to institutional integrity.
The university administration emphasized that the decision to enforce expulsion serves as a firm deterrent to other students against generating unverified or defamatory content capable of bringing academic departments and faculty members into disrepute.
Academic stakeholders and student bodies across the state have reiterated the importance of responsible digital engagement, urging undergraduates to utilize established internal grievance channels rather than resorting to unverified public broadcasts that risk severe academic sanctions.
