Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has attributed the death of fast-rising Nigerian musician Ifunanya Nwangene to inadequate healthcare facilities in the country.

The Abuja-based soprano singer and member of the Amemuso Choir passed away on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, following a snake bite.

Reacting to the tragedy on his official X account on Sunday, Ibe expressed outrage over the lack of essential medical care. He questioned why a public hospital in the nation’s capital would not be equipped with snake antivenom.

He wrote: “Fast-rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene, 26, was not killed by a snake. She was killed by Nigeria, or as is often said, Nigeria happened to her.

“To imagine that a public hospital in the Federal Capital Territory does not have snake antivenom, in a supposedly high-burden area for snakebite in Nigeria. Meanwhile, anti-opposition is available in great quantity.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
