Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has credited his success in the 2024 gubernatorial election to his decision to select Dennis Idahosa as his running mate.

In a statement released Tuesday by Idahosa’s Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Governor Okpebholo described his deputy as not just a political ally but a brother, emphasizing that his choice of Idahosa was pivotal to winning the election.

Speaking on Sunday during a reception for defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okada, the administrative center of Ovia North-East Local Government Area, the governor praised the strong working relationship he shares with his deputy.

“I owe my victory to the wise decision of picking him. Our partnership has been seamless. Had I chosen someone else, I might not be standing here today as governor,” Okpebholo stated.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to serving the people of Edo State, pointing to their shared roots as a motivating factor behind their commitment.

“We are working for the people because we are truly from here. We’re not outsiders; we weren’t imported from elsewhere,” he said.

The governor also highlighted the administration’s proactive approach to development, stressing that projects are not tied to electoral cycles.

“You can see us moving from one project to another — not just during campaign seasons. That’s not how sustainable development works,” he explained. “By the time we clock three years in office, I believe Edo people will look back and give thanks to God for giving us this opportunity to serve.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
