ICPC, IMMIGRATION SERVICE PARTNER TO CURB ILLEGAL MIGRATION VIA BORNO BORDERS

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has partnered with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to strengthen efforts aimed at curbing illegal migration through Nigeria’s Borno State borders.

Officials said the collaboration is focused on addressing corruption, document fraud, and border security gaps that have contributed to irregular cross-border movement in the region.

According to the agencies, the initiative will involve intelligence sharing, joint monitoring, and improved enforcement strategies to detect and prevent illegal migration activities.

They noted that Borno’s border corridors remain vulnerable due to security challenges, making coordinated action essential to control movement and enhance national security.

The ICPC emphasized that corruption within migration and border management systems undermines national safety and creates opportunities for human trafficking and other transnational crimes.

Immigration authorities said the partnership will also focus on capacity building for officers stationed at border posts to improve efficiency and compliance with immigration laws.

Stakeholders believe the collaboration will strengthen Nigeria’s border governance framework and reduce security risks associated with irregular migration.

Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining joint operations and ensuring stricter enforcement of immigration regulations across affected border communities.
