IBEDC SUSPENDS STAFF OVER POWER VANDALISM

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has suspended some of its staff members allegedly linked to the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State.

The company disclosed this after the Osun State Police Command arrested individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged vandalism. IBEDC said the affected staff would remain suspended while investigations into the incident continue.

The company’s Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, said IBEDC was cooperating fully with the police to ensure that the investigation was thorough, transparent and impartial.

She said the company would take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee found culpable, in line with its policies and applicable laws.

IBEDC maintained that it has zero tolerance for the vandalism or theft of electricity infrastructure, as well as other unethical or criminal conduct.

The company said attacks on electricity infrastructure have become an increasing concern because damaged equipment can lead to prolonged outages and disrupt electricity supply to communities.

IBEDC urged customers, community leaders and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to the appropriate authorities.

The company said it would continue working with law enforcement agencies to protect critical electricity infrastructure across its franchise area and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the law.
