IBB UNIVERSITY MOURNS ROBBERY VICTIM, DECLARES TWO LECTURE-FREE DAYS
The management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has declared Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25, 2025, as lecture-free days in honour of a student who was recently killed during a robbery attack.
This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna by the Deputy Registrar of Information, Alhaji Baba Akote. He said the two days would serve as a time of mourning, reflection, and prayers for the late student.
He also assured that peace had been fully restored in Lapai town and on the university’s Main and Kobo campuses.
Akote noted that this followed a high-level emergency security meeting held by the university, which included key stakeholders such as the Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Tertiary Education, the Director-General of Student Affairs, the Students’ Union Government, the alumni body, traditional leaders, and security operatives.
He dismissed rumours of attacks by youths from the host community, saying such reports were false and misleading. According to him, the situation is now calm and students should continue their academic and personal activities without fear.
To further ensure safety, Akote said security patrols have been intensified around student lodges and key areas of the campus.
He urged students to remain peaceful, avoid spreading unverified information, and work with security personnel to maintain a safe environment.
The university also expressed gratitude to the Niger State Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders for their prompt response and ongoing support in maintaining peace on campus.
