IBADAN JOURNALIST, OJO PETER, SHOT DEAD BY ARMED ROBBERS
Tragedy has struck the media community in Oyo State as Ibadan-based journalist, Ojo Peter, was allegedly killed by armed robbers in a daylight attack.
Peter, a former reporter with Parrot Extra newspaper and founder of his own online platform, was shot on August 18, 2025, along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of Ibadan. He later died from the gunshot wounds.
News of his death only surfaced weeks later, on Sunday, September 7, when colleagues confirmed it on the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State WhatsApp platform. The late announcement has left many shocked and questioning why the incident wasn’t reported earlier.
His younger brother, Enahoro Peter, recounted the painful discovery:
“On that same day that he was shot, I got a call from a police officer at Orita Challenge that our brother was at their station. But when I got there, I was told he had been shot by a notorious armed robber operating on a motorcycle.
This is someone who went out in search of daily bread for his family. He was hale and healthy, yet his life was cut short by the bullet of an armed robber in broad daylight.”
Efforts to get an official statement from the Oyo State Police Command through its spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, proved unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
The shocking death of Ojo Peter has left colleagues and family members mourning, while raising fresh concerns about the rising wave of insecurity in Ibadan.
