Akpabio Denies Illness Rumours, Says He Only Took a Short Break in London

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has debunked rumours circulating on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised in London.

Akpabio, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning, appeared lively and full of energy. He was warmly received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.

Addressing journalists, the Senate President said:

“There’s nothing like that. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”

He explained that after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland (July 29–31), he proceeded to London for a brief rest, describing the last legislative year as “hectic.”

Recent reports had suggested that Akpabio was hospitalised abroad, but he dismissed them as baseless rumours created by mischief-makers.

The Senate President further assured Nigerians of a more vibrant National Assembly when lawmakers resume, stressing that the country would benefit from stronger democratic governance and closer collaboration between the legislature, executive, and judiciary.

With his return, Akpabio says he is ready to hit the ground running.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
