Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed rumors of a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming that he remains committed to the party despite recent political shifts.

Makinde made this clear following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where he was asked about reports that some PDP governors and leaders had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

When questioned on whether he had any plans to move to the APC, the governor said he did not, emphasizing that his loyalty to the PDP remains steadfast.

“I’m comfortable in the PDP,” Makinde stated.

He noted that there are situations in the country where a bipartisan approach is necessary, adding: “It shouldn’t be a situation where only the APC is talking or only the PDP is talking. We must focus on what advances our nation’s interests.”

Makinde further explained that when national priorities are at stake, cooperation across party lines becomes essential. “At that point, you need everybody on board,” he said.

The governor’s remarks indicate his openness to bipartisan dialogue at the national level, while firmly maintaining his political base within the PDP and rejecting any immediate move to the APC.

Makinde’s meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday followed shortly after Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently defected from the PDP to the APC, visited the State House.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
