“I ONLY DEFENDED MYSELF” — MR JOLLOF SPEAKS AFTER AIRPLANE FIGHT WITH VDM
“I Am Not a Violent Person, I Only Defended Myself” — Mr Jollof Breaks Silence After Fight With VDM on Airplane
Nigerian social critic and Delta State governor’s aide, Mr Jollof, has spoken publicly for the first time since his heated physical altercation with popular activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) inside an airplane at the Asaba International Airport on Monday, November 17.
The fight, which took place just before takeoff, sparked massive reactions online after passengers captured parts of the incident on video.
“To my wife, I know you’re proud of me” — Jollof
In a video shared online, Mr Jollof apologized to several people and institutions, including:
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)
His boss, the Delta State governor
His wife and children
Other passengers
Nigerians in general
According to him, although he feels remorseful for the public altercation, he insists he only acted in self-defense after VDM allegedly confronted and threatened him.
He joked that he delivered “3000 mg of blows” during the fight, adding:
“To my lovely wife, I know you are proud of me. 3000 mg was sent and delivered—not by muscles. To my kids, Daddy will never do this again. And to my boss, I am sorry, this is not my kind of person. I was only trying to defend myself.”
How the Fight Started
Jollof explained that he was seated quietly in the aircraft when VDM allegedly began making provocative remarks after some passengers hailed him.
According to Jollof, VDM told him:
“If we come down from this plane, I go slap you. Make God punish your papa. I fit commot from here now come slap you.”
Jollof said he simply responded with:
“Behave yourself.”
However, he claimed that VDM then stood up from his seat and walked toward him aggressively. Fearing an attack, he said he had no choice but to defend himself, which resulted in the mid-air brawl.
Why He Bit VDM
Addressing claims that he bit VDM during the fight, Jollof laughed it off and said humans use whatever tools God gives them.
He compared the moment to legendary boxer Mike Tyson’s infamous tactics:
“Mike Tyson used what God gave him. When you carry knife come gun battle, anything you see you go take am.”
What’s Next?
The incident has sparked debate online, with fans of both men exchanging heated opinions. Authorities may also investigate the in-flight altercation, given aviation safety rules.
For now, both men have publicly acknowledged the fight, but Nigerians are waiting to see whether airlines or regulators will take disciplinary action.
