“I Married By the Voice of God” – Nathaniel Bassey Opens Up on How God Led Him to His Wife

Popular Nigerian gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has shared the touching story of how divine direction guided him to his wife, describing their union as a powerful example of hearing and following God’s voice.

Speaking during a recent message, Pastor Bassey revealed that his wife had been on a month-long fast in her church, themed “Two Is Better Than One.” During that period, she felt a deep conviction in her heart that Nathaniel was her destined husband—but she still asked God for a clear and undeniable confirmation.

“She told God, ‘This is my life, please give me something very clear and substantial,’” he recalled.

According to Bassey, her confirmation came in a rather unusual but divine way. On the final day of her fast, she attended a church service where the pastor read a passage from Isaiah 64. In the middle of reading, the pastor mistakenly said, “And Jesus saw Nathaniel standing under the fig tree.”

The congregation was surprised, and the pastor immediately apologized for the mix-up—but moments later, he repeated the same “mistake” again.

“That was the sign she needed,” Nathaniel explained. “God literally mentioned my name twice through the pastor’s mouth. That was her confirmation. That’s how we got married—by the voice of God.”

The gospel minister encouraged Christians to trust God’s leading, especially in making life-changing decisions such as marriage. Quoting Psalm 119:105, he said, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

His testimony has since gone viral on social media, inspiring many believers to seek divine guidance rather than relying solely on human reasoning in their relationships and personal journeys.
