THE BIGSTORY
“I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR NONSENSE” — CATHOLIC PRIEST FR. KELVIN UGWU REPLIES MAN ASKING FOR DONATION TO BUY COW FOR BURIAL
Nigerian Catholic priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has stirred reactions online after calling out a man who asked him for a donation to buy a cow for his relative’s burial.
In a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, October 7, Fr. Ugwu revealed that the man claimed the cow was a “requirement” for the burial and that the deceased would not rest in peace if he failed to provide one.
Reacting humorously but firmly, the outspoken priest said he had no patience for such requests and advised the man to inform his relatives that he could not afford any “Rest-In-Peace cow.”
“It has been a long time since I looked for anyone’s trouble here because I repented and decided to be peaceful. But someone just provoked that peace. The person is asking for a donation to buy a cow for the burial of his relative. I was like, in this Tinubu regime, people still buy cows for burial? People get mind oh,” he wrote.
Fr. Ugwu added that when he questioned the man, the individual insisted that the cow was necessary for the deceased’s peace and for his acceptance by the villagers.
“I don’t have time for nonsense. Blocked!” the priest declared, adding that the cost of a “rest in peace” cow had now become outrageous.
He further joked that Nigerians who believe such traditions should start informing their families in advance if they can’t afford the cow after death.
“Inform them that you won’t be able to afford their Rest-In-Peace cow so they can make up their minds early. Either they hustle for it before they die or accept their fate that there won’t be peace for them after death,” he wrote humorously.
Fr. Ugwu’s post has since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions — while many social media users applauded his bluntness, others called for a balance between tradition and modern Christian practices.
