“I DON’T CARE ABOUT AWARDS”—OMAH LAY SPEAKS AFTER FIRST GRAMMY NOMINATION
Nigerian music star Omah Lay has broken his silence after earning his first-ever Grammy nomination—and his reaction has surprised many fans.
Omah Lay, whose collaboration with Davido on the hit track “With You” secured a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Grammy Awards, says that although he’s happy about the recognition, awards are not something he’s obsessed with.
Taking to his Instagram page, the singer wrote:
“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards. Yeah but I really want it for OBO! He is the realest friend I’ve had in a while, he stood by me during my hardest times.”
His statement has sparked conversations online, especially his heartfelt praise for Davido, who has supported him through personal struggles.
Despite being one of Africa’s biggest artists, Davido is yet to win a Grammy, although he has received four nominations—two of them in the same Best African Music Performance category since it was created in 2023.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast globally on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
With both artists nominated, fans are hoping that this could finally be the year Davido brings home his first Grammy.
