I DID NOT CARRY PLACARD IN PROTEST AGAINST JONATHAN — ADEBOYE NEWS

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has rejected claims that he carried a placard in protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking during the church’s November Thanksgiving service on Sunday, Adeboye said the photograph came from a prayer walk held in 2020, five years after Jonathan left office.

He explained that the gathering focused on insecurity and killings across Nigeria, rather than opposition to Jonathan.

“True, I carried a placard. I can’t deny that,” Adeboye said. “It was a prayer walk. We wanted to pray.”

The cleric accused those circulating the claim of misrepresenting the event and criticised the failure to verify its date and purpose.

He urged journalists and content creators to investigate information before publishing or sharing it.

Adeboye led the prayer walk on February 2, 2020, during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The exercise followed a three-day fasting and prayer programme declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria over the country’s security challenges.

Participants walked from the church’s national headquarters in Ebute Meta, Lagos, towards Atan Cemetery in Yaba before returning.

Photographs showed Adeboye holding a placard reading, “All Souls Are Precious to God.”

He maintained that linking the image to a protest during Jonathan’s presidency distorted the circumstances of the gathering.
