Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially explained why he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Eno said he chose to move openly to the ruling party because he could not continue supporting President Bola Tinubu “in the dark.”

According to him, while he remains grateful to the PDP for giving him the platform to become governor, it was important to be transparent about where his loyalty lies.

“I’m convinced that President Tinubu is doing very well. While I appreciate the PDP for providing the platform for me to become governor, the constitution provides the liberty to switch parties if one decides,” he said.

The governor stressed that his defection was rooted in honesty and conviction.

“I couldn’t say I’m in one party during the day and then go to Aso Rock at night to pledge my loyalty. It’s best to let people know where I stand. When comparing President Tinubu with others, I naturally prefer him,” Eno added.

His move marks another high-profile defection in Nigeria’s political landscape, further strengthening APC’s grip in the South-South region.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
