“I CAN’T GO TO CAMPUS ANYMORE” — SINGER FOLA OPENS UP ON HIS STRUGGLE WITH FAME
Fast-rising Nigerian singer Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has shared his emotional journey from struggling artist to rising Afrobeats star, revealing how fame has completely changed his life.
In a snippet from his upcoming Spotify Radar documentary, the “Alone” crooner recalled how he invested all his money into a music project in 2022 with hopes of making it big — but the plan failed.
“2022, I can’t forget. I put all my money on a music project but I didn’t blow,” Fola said.
Despite the disappointment, he remained consistent, and by the following year, his persistence started paying off.
“Before, if I went to the campus, people didn’t even recognise my presence. But just one year down the line, I can’t even enter school anymore because of fame,” he added.
Fola, who rose to prominence after joining Bella Shmurda’s Dagbana Republik label in October 2024, said music has always been deeply personal to him.
“Music matters so much to me because it is such an amazing thing that you can speak to and touch someone without even meeting them in person.”
Since his breakout hit “Alone”, the young star has collaborated with top Afrobeats acts including Wizkid and Kizz Daniel, solidifying his place among Nigeria’s new generation of hitmakers.
