Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said he bears no hatred or resentment towards former colleagues, friends and family members who have chosen not to support him amid his current circumstances.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory made this known in a statement titled, “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” which he shared on his X handle on Wednesday.

El-Rufai said he had supported people and causes over the years because of his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values and conscience, rather than in expectation of praise or reciprocation.

He said those he had supported were now free to decide how they wanted to respond to his present circumstances.

According to him, some people might speak in his support, while others could remain silent or distance themselves from relationships they previously had with him.

El-Rufai said he did not intend to judge people simply because their reactions differed from what he or others might have expected.

He noted that his experiences in recent months had prompted him to reflect on some of his relationships.

The former governor said adversity could reveal the true nature of relationships and might cause him to reconsider some relationships and what people who looked up to him expected from them.

However, he stressed that such reflection should not be interpreted as condemnation of those involved.

El-Rufai said he had no regrets about supporting people or causes whenever he believed it was the right thing to do.

He added that the actions of others would not change the principles that had guided his decisions over the years.

The former governor also said he would not seek revenge or retribution over any perceived injustice, ingratitude or injury against him.

He said he had left ultimate accountability to Almighty Allah, both in this world and in the Hereafter.

El-Rufai concluded that his priority was to remain at peace with his conscience and with Almighty Allah, while leaving people to live with the consequences of their choices.
