Chief MC Oluomo, a prominent figure in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has insisted that he remains the legitimate president of the union, even after supporters of rival leader Tajudeen Baruwa reportedly took over the national secretariat in Abuja.

In a statement released on Tuesday, MC Oluomo denounced the takeover and said the move by opposition elements would not change the leadership of the union. He accused his rivals of orchestrating an “unauthorised” occupation of union premises in an attempt to undermine his authority.

“We will not be intimidated or sidelined,” MC Oluomo said. “I have not relinquished my position, and I remain the duly elected president of the NURTW. All attempts to disrupt our mandate will fail.”

The leadership dispute escalated recently when factions within the union clashed over control of the national secretariat, leading to tensions and reports of violence in parts of the union’s headquarters.

Security agencies were deployed to the area after the confrontation, and several individuals were reportedly arrested as police worked to restore order.

MC Oluomo urged members to remain calm and avoid violence, while promising to pursue legal avenues to resolve the leadership crisis.

The dispute comes amid ongoing internal disagreements within the NURTW, with competing claims to leadership and conflicting court judgments contributing to the uncertainty.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
