HOW MR EAZI IS QUIETLY BUILDING A BUSINESS EMPIRE ACROSS AFRICA
While many chase attention in the spotlight, some quietly build lasting empires. Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, is proving to be one of them.
Often introduced as “Femi Otedola’s in-law” or recognized through his music and high-profile relationship with Temi Otedola, Mr Eazi has gone far beyond being a hitmaker. He is also a shrewd entrepreneur managing a multimillion-dollar portfolio that spans music, finance, technology, sports, and real estate across 18 African countries. His bold ventures in publishing, distribution, and startup funding show that his influence extends more to boardrooms than to social media.
His journey began in 2013 with the mixtape About to Blow, but it was his collaboration with Efya on Skin Tight that earned him international recognition. By 2017, his project Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos established him as one of afrobeats’ most distinctive voices. His unique fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian rhythms—what he dubbed Banku Music—secured collaborations with Burna Boy, Olamide, Tekno, and DJ Cuppy. From viral campus anthems in Ghana to sold-out concerts in London and even a Coachella performance, his sound seamlessly crossed borders.
But unlike many contemporaries, Mr Eazi always viewed music as just one piece of a larger puzzle. In 2019, he launched emPawa Africa, a talent incubation project aimed at nurturing upcoming African musicians. With support from YouTube Music, the program’s first edition provided grants and mentorship to 30 artists. He also founded Banku Music, the label that introduced his signature sound.
Beyond music, his business ventures spread across several sectors. In technology and finance, he co-founded PawaPay, a fintech company simplifying mobile money transfers across the continent. Through Zagadat Capital, his investment firm, he has supported promising startups like Decagon and, in 2023, became linked with U.S. tech and music powerhouse Gamma.
In sports and betting, Mr Eazi serves as CEO of BetPawa, which signed a $6 million sponsorship deal with the Ghana Premier League. He also owns shares in the Cape Town Tigers, a South African basketball team—an investment he once revealed was inspired by Jay-Z’s NBA ownership ventures. His real estate developments in Kigali, Rwanda, further underscore his pan-African vision.
At his wedding to Temi Otedola, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, publicly confirmed that Mr Eazi manages businesses across 18 countries and even suggested that the singer could one day join the ranks of Africa’s wealthiest men.
