The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five men who allegedly assaulted Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu for assisting the police in an ongoing investigation in her community.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the arrest followed a direct order from the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who called for immediate action after the incident went viral.

According to Okoye, the police were alerted to a circulating video showing Mrs. Agu being attacked in Emekuku, Owerri North LGA, by the suspects and another individual who is currently on the run.

Acting swiftly on the commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit began an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects identified as:

Onyekachi Njoku

Chiazor Osuji

Chukwuma Iwuala

Eugene Njoku

Emmanuel Njoku

Okoye said the suspects have already made confessional statements admitting to their involvement in the assault.

He added that the sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, remains at large, and police operatives are intensifying efforts to track him down.

“The Commissioner of Police condemns the assault in its entirety and reaffirms that the intimidation of citizens who lawfully cooperate with the police will not be tolerated. The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soonest with the appropriate criminal charges,” the statement read.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
