HONESTY PAYS: CLEANER REWARDED WITH N2.5 MILLION FOR RETURNING N4.8M
Maiduguri Cleaner Rewarded with N2.5m for Returning Mistaken Bank Transfer.
A cleaner from Borno State, Faiza Abdulkadir, who earns a monthly salary of just N30,000, has been rewarded with a generous gift of N2.5 million for her extraordinary act of honesty. Faiza returned a sum of N4.8 million that was mistakenly transferred into her bank account, a decision that has been widely praised across Nigeria.
The cheque for N2.5 million was presented to her by the President of the Da’awah Wal Irshaad Women Organisation, Aisha Muhammad Aisami, in Maiduguri. Aisami revealed that an anonymous "good Samaritan" read about Faiza's story online and was so moved that they contacted the organization to find her and reward her for her integrity.
In her response, Faiza expressed her gratitude to the donor and the organization. She also used the opportunity to advise people to "fear God" and avoid being tempted by temporary worldly gains. "If you fear God, anything that doesn’t belong to you would not attract you," she said, emphasizing that she was motivated by a desire to prepare for eternal life.
This is not the first reward for Faiza's honesty. The Borno State government, through its First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum, had previously gifted her N1 million, along with food items and vocational skills equipment. The state Commissioner of Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, praised Faiza's action as a rare display of integrity, particularly given her difficult financial circumstances as the sole provider for her five children and aged mother.
Faiza's story has resonated with many people, highlighting that in a time of economic hardship, a strong moral compass and the fear of God can be a powerful guide.
