HISBAH ARRESTS COUPLE, THREE OTHERS OVER UNAUTHORIZED MARRIAGE IN KANO
The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended five individuals for allegedly conducting an unauthorized marriage ceremony without obtaining parental consent.
Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, revealed this in a statement issued in Kano on Monday.
According to him, those arrested include the groom, the bride, and three others who served as representatives and a witness during the ceremony.
The marriage was reportedly conducted with a dowry of ₦10,000, which falls below the minimum amount accepted under Islamic marital standards.
Aminuddeen explained that the union breached Islamic and legal procedures governing marriage, adding that an investigation into the incident has commenced.
He urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s social activities and offer proper guidance in matters related to marriage.
The development comes shortly after the Kano State Government instructed the Hisbah Board to commence preparations for the mass wedding of about 2,000 couples across the state.
Aminuddeen also stated that all intending couples must register and undergo mandatory medical screening to confirm their health status.
