HEFAMAA URGES LAGOS RESIDENTS TO REPORT ILLEGAL, SUBSTANDARD HEALTH FACILITIES
The Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has called on Lagos residents to stay vigilant and report illegal or substandard health facilities operating in their communities.
The call was made during a sensitisation and town hall meeting in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area by Dr. Olorunfemi Olonire, Director of Research and Statistics at HEFAMAA, who represented the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abiola Idowu.
Dr. Olonire emphasised that ensuring safe healthcare is a shared responsibility between the government and the public. He urged residents to report any clinic, maternity home, or health centre operating under unsafe conditions, highlighting the critical role of community vigilance in maintaining healthcare standards.
He further explained that HEFAMAA has been educating communities on how to identify and verify duly registered health facilities across the state. “Our duty is to ensure that all health facilities in Lagos meet the required standards. But we also rely on the vigilance of the public. Communities must serve as our eyes and ears,” he said.
During the meeting, residents of Amuwo Odofin raised concerns about access to affordable and safe healthcare, particularly in the state’s riverine areas. Dr. Olonire assured that these issues would be escalated to the Permanent Secretary, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, and ultimately the Governor for necessary intervention.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare across the mainland, the island, and riverine communities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and local councils.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bridge healthcare gaps and ensure that every Lagos resident has access to safe, quality, and equitable healthcare services.
