HEAVY TRAFFIC ON IBADAN-LAGOS ROAD, PASSENGERS TREK FOR HOURS

A severe traffic jam crippled movement on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on Tuesday, leaving many commuters stranded and forcing others to walk long distances, while transporters voiced frustration over wasted hours.

The gridlock, which stretched for hours, was reportedly caused by ongoing rehabilitation work on dilapidated sections of the road near Guru Maharaj Ji Village and other areas.

With traffic diverted to a single lane, movement became nearly impossible, prompting many passengers to abandon vehicles and proceed on foot.

Stranded motorists expressed their anger, claiming they had remained stuck in one spot for nearly four hours. They blamed the situation on the alleged insensitivity of the construction firm, RCC, to the plight of road users.

“This road has been in a terrible condition for months. Why wait until now, just days before the Sallah festivities, to begin repairs? They should have anticipated increased traffic,” one frustrated driver said.

Another commuter, who had been traveling from Lagos to Ibadan, recounted, “I left Lagos at 10:23 a.m. It’s now 4:00 p.m., and I’m still here with no end in sight. The authorities are indifferent because they don’t use this road.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
