"HE ONLY WANTED TO BE USEFUL" – DESTINY ETIKO MOURNS SLAIN FISH ENTREPRENEUR IN ANAMBRA
Destiny Etiko Heartbroken Over Killing of Young Anambra Entrepreneur, Fish Magnet
Nollywood star Destiny Etiko has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of rising entrepreneur Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, who was recently abducted and murdered in Anambra State.
The 35-year-old businessman was attacked last Saturday at his home in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses say gunmen in an ash-coloured Lexus SUV shot him in the leg and forced him into his own Toyota Corolla. Days later, his lifeless body was found dumped by the roadside in Awka.
Reacting to the heartbreaking news, Destiny Etiko took to Instagram to mourn the loss of a man she described as hardworking and full of promise.
“The painful demise of this hardworking & promising young man has kept me dumbstruck. What was his offence? Because he decided to be useful to himself? Kidnapping and taking money from him wasn’t enough — must you take his life too?” she wrote emotionally.
Etiko also called on Nigerian authorities to improve security across the country, especially in the southeastern region.
“This tragedy is becoming a nightmare. We need maximum security in all the states, especially in the eastern part of Nigeria,” she pleaded.
Onyekere was the only son of Chinyere Onyekesi, the Women Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State. He was the founder and CEO of Fish Magnet, a growing fish business that had become well-known within the region.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident and disclosed that the assailants had likely trailed him before carrying out the attack. His abandoned vehicle was later recovered by police and local vigilantes on the Ukwulu–Igbariam road.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an all-out manhunt for the killers, directing tactical and intelligence units to ensure justice is served.
This tragic loss has shaken the community and sparked fresh calls for better security, especially for young people striving to build honest livelihoods in Nigeria.
