GYöKERES’ ARSENAL TRANSFER ON THE BRINK AS TALKS STALL OVER FEE
Viktor Gyökeres’ much-anticipated move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal is now hanging by a thread after negotiations between the two clubs hit a standstill over the striker’s valuation.
The Swedish international had been Arsenal’s top target this summer, chosen ahead of players like Benjamin Šeško as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options. Gyökeres is even said to have agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with the Gunners and was simply waiting for the two clubs to finalise the transfer fee.
But according to fresh reports from Record, talks have stalled completely since the weekend. Arsenal and Sporting remain stuck in their positions over what the striker is worth.
Gyökeres reportedly believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting that would let him leave for €60 million plus €10 million in bonuses (roughly £51.7 million plus £8.6 million). Sporting, however, seem to disagree, with the Portuguese club now demanding a firm €70 million (£60.4 million) up front, rejecting Arsenal’s structure of add-ons.
Arsenal had put forward a proposal worth €65 million plus €15 million in performance-related add-ons (around £56 million plus £12.9 million), but Sporting aren’t budging. The deadlock forced Arsenal’s representatives to return to London from Lisbon without securing a deal.
This latest setback means Arsenal are now reassessing their options and could walk away from the transfer entirely unless Sporting soften their stance in the coming days.
With the new Premier League season inching closer, Arsenal fans will be eager to see if the club will reignite talks for Gyökeres or shift focus to other attacking targets.
