GUNMEN SHOOT DRIVER, STEAL CASH IN BROAD DAYLIGHT ROBBERY IN KWARA
Residents of Ilorin, Kwara State, were thrown into a state of panic on Friday when a four-man armed robbery gang carried out a bold daylight attack, shooting a motorist and stealing a large sum of cash.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., directly opposite the Kwara State Correspondents’ Chapel office. Eyewitnesses reported that the masked gunmen fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. It is believed that the assailants trailed their victim from a different location. The victim was driving a grey Toyota Sienna with the registration number AA 693 GT when the attack occurred.
According to a witness, the gunmen shot at the vehicle from behind, damaging both left tires and forcing the driver to stop. "They must have been following him. They shot at his car, deflated the tires, and then took the money, which was packed inside four large cartons," the eyewitness said.
The victim, who is believed to have been transporting cash for an undisclosed assignment, sustained a gunshot wound to his palm during the attack. After seizing the cash, the robbers fled in an ash-colored Toyota Corolla with a faded number plate, leaving fear and confusion in their wake.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the robbery occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. and that investigations have commenced. Police authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects, as efforts continue to restore calm and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
