Gunmen have killed a 35-year-old man, Sufiyanu Garba, and abducted his wife during an attack in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, in the early hours of Thursday.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command said it had launched a full investigation into the attack.

The command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, stated that the incident occurred on March 13, 2026, and resulted in the death of Garba and the abduction of his wife.

He said detectives visited the scene shortly after the report and immediately began investigations.

According to him, the victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were later deposited in the hospital morgue.

Usman noted that a police checkpoint was located not far from the scene and emphasised that timely information from residents could help security operatives respond more quickly to emergencies.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough investigation, rescue the abducted woman, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The police also assured residents that additional measures were being taken to strengthen security across Kebbi State, while urging the public to promptly report emergencies through the command’s 24-hour distress lines.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
