Suspected gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, alongside another resident identified as Sulaiman Zunduma.

The attack occurred on Sunday night when the assailants reportedly invaded Rantan community and opened fire on residents, forcing several people to flee their homes for safety.

According to a resident, Hamza Isah Rantan, Buba was attacked inside his residence and sustained gunshot injuries. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Zunduma, however, was reportedly shot during the attack and died at the scene.

Hamza, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, described the attackers as kidnappers and said the gunmen stormed the community at night before opening fire on residents.

The killing of the APC ward chairman has generated concern among residents, particularly amid increasing security challenges in parts of Kano State.

The development was also confirmed by the Kano State APC spokesperson, Auwalu Soja, who said Buba was killed on Sunday. The party spokesman, however, said the APC would issue an official statement concerning the incident.

As of the time of the report, the Kano State Police Command had not released an official statement on the attack. It was also unclear whether security operatives had arrested any suspects in connection with the killings.

The latest attack occurred less than a day after suspected bandits reportedly invaded Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state and abducted the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa.

The back-to-back incidents have heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano, with residents calling for stronger measures to protect communities from armed attacks and abductions.
