Tragedy struck a community in Plateau State after gunmen reportedly ambushed and killed a 30-year-old man, identified as Elisha Saku, in a late-night attack.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday in Riwhie-Chwo, Nzharuvo, located in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area. According to residents, the attackers stormed the area suddenly, causing panic and confusion among locals.

The killing was confirmed in a statement by the Irigwe Youth Movement, which described the act as brutal and deeply disturbing.

Spokesperson of the group, Joseph Yonkpa, expressed sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, while also calling for comfort for the wider Irigwe community.

This latest attack adds to the ongoing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Bassa LGA, where communities, especially farming areas, have faced repeated violent incidents.

As of the time of reporting, efforts to get an official response from the police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety in rural communities, with residents calling for stronger security presence to prevent further attacks.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
