Security agencies launch manhunt for assailants as state police command confirms destruction of station structures and operational vehicles in early morning assault

Unidentified gunmen attacked the Uratta Divisional Police Headquarters in Aba, Abia State, killing two police officers and inflicting severe injuries on three other personnel during an early morning raid.

The assailants launched the assault at approximately 2:20 a.m., deploying improvised explosive devices that ignited a fire, severely damaging parts of the police facility and setting the division's official patrol van and nearby vehicles ablaze.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that two senior police officers lost their lives in the line of duty, while three police inspectors sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba.

The police command clarified that despite the destruction of station infrastructure, no firearms or ammunition were carted away by the attackers during the breach.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti, alongside Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi, inspected the damaged facility to assess the level of destruction, reassuring residents that joint security operations have been intensified across the commercial hub to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.

Security personnel from the Nigerian Army 144 Battalion and police tactical teams have maintained enhanced patrols across Aba and surrounding communities to restore calm and secure public infrastructure.
