GUNMEN ABDUCT KANO APC CHAIRMAN, KILL TWO RESIDENTS IN FRESH ROGO ATTACK

Gunmen have abducted the All Progressives Congress Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, after invading the community in a fresh overnight attack that left two people dead.

The incident occurred at about 11pm on Monday, according to reports, when the attackers stormed the area and attempted to abduct the local APC chairman. Two residents who tried to prevent the abduction were reportedly shot dead by the assailants.

Fanka was subsequently taken away by the gunmen, while the two victims were left dead following the attack. The incident has generated fresh concerns about the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kano State.

The latest attack came less than 24 hours after another deadly incident in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state. In that attack, gunmen killed the APC Chairman of Rantan Ward, Alhaji Garba Buba, alongside another resident identified as Sulaiman Zunduma.

The succession of attacks has heightened fears among residents, particularly as several communities in the affected areas have reportedly experienced attacks by suspected kidnappers and bandits within a short period.

The Rogo incident also highlights the growing security concerns surrounding political figures and community leaders in some parts of the state. The abduction of Fanka has added another dimension to the recent wave of violence, coming at a time when security agencies are under increasing pressure to contain criminal activities across the region.

According to reports, the attackers operated around the community at night before targeting the APC chairman. Residents who attempted to resist the operation were confronted by the gunmen, resulting in the deaths of two people.

As of the time of reporting, there was no official confirmation on the identity of the attackers or whether any group had claimed responsibility for the incident. The circumstances surrounding the abduction, including whether the attackers had made contact with Fanka's family or associates, were also not immediately clear.

Efforts to obtain an immediate response from the police command were reportedly unsuccessful. The absence of an early official account has left many details surrounding the incident unclear, including the current whereabouts of the abducted APC chairman.

The latest development has further increased pressure on security authorities to intensify operations against criminal groups operating in communities across Kano State. Residents are particularly concerned about the repeated attacks occurring within neighbouring local government areas.

The killing of two residents in Rogo, coming shortly after the deaths of Buba and Zunduma in Bebeji, has raised questions about the ability of criminal groups to operate across communities with relative ease.

The authorities are expected to investigate the attack and intensify efforts to locate Fanka and secure his safe release. The incident also underscores the need for stronger security measures in vulnerable communities, particularly at night when criminal groups are increasingly carrying out attacks.

With the 2027 political season gradually approaching, the repeated targeting of political figures and community leaders could also raise broader concerns about the security environment in Kano and other parts of northern Nigeria.
