GUNMEN ABDUCT AAUA STAFF MEMBER AT HIS HOME IN ONDO STATE
Panic in Ondo as AAUA Staff, Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, Abducted by Gunmen at Home
A disturbing incident has rocked the university community in Ondo State as Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), was abducted by gunmen at his residence in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area.
Eleyinmi, who serves as the Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Education and is an active member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), was kidnapped on Monday evening, shortly after returning from work.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. along the Akungba-Supare road. According to an SOS message circulated by a senior academic colleague who asked to remain anonymous, the kidnappers stormed the area, firing gunshots into the air to scare away residents before taking the victim away.
His wife, who was home at the time, narrowly escaped harm. She revealed that the gunmen had initially arrived before her husband returned, but they waited and launched their attack the moment he stepped into the compound.
“They were shooting sporadically, creating panic before grabbing him and fleeing,” she recounted.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation from the Ondo State Police Command. However, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated he had not yet been briefed but assured the public that more details would be released soon.
The kidnapping has sparked fear and anxiety among staff and students of AAUA, as well as in the wider Supare-Akoko community, with calls growing louder for improved security and swift rescue operations.
Authorities are being urged to act fast to ensure Mr. Eleyinmi’s safe return and prevent future incidents of this kind.
