Guinness Nigeria and its partners have called for stronger enforcement measures against counterfeit goods, warning that the rising circulation of fake products poses risks to consumers, businesses, and government revenue.

The company made the appeal during a stakeholder engagement focused on combating product counterfeiting and protecting brand integrity in the country’s fast-moving consumer goods sector.

According to officials, fake and substandard products not only undermine legitimate businesses but also expose consumers to health and safety risks. They noted that counterfeit alcoholic beverages and other fast-moving goods remain a growing concern in several markets.

The partners urged regulatory agencies and security operatives to intensify surveillance, improve market monitoring, and ensure strict prosecution of offenders involved in the production and distribution of fake goods.

They also emphasized the importance of consumer awareness, encouraging Nigerians to verify product authenticity and purchase only from authorized distributors and retailers.

Guinness Nigeria reiterated its commitment to working with government agencies and industry stakeholders to strengthen anti-counterfeit initiatives and protect the value of genuine brands in the marketplace.

As enforcement efforts continue, stakeholders say collaboration between the private sector and regulatory bodies will be critical in reducing the spread of fake products across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
