GROUP FAULTS ATIKU OVER TINUBU’S HOLIDAY CLAIM

A group has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments concerning President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the country while on holiday.

Atiku had raised concerns about the President’s absence, suggesting that leaving the country for an extended period could create a leadership vacuum at a time when Nigeria faces several challenges.

However, the group rejected the claim, arguing that the President’s absence did not mean the country was without leadership.

The group said Nigeria’s constitutional framework provides for the Vice President to perform presidential duties when necessary, ensuring continuity in governance.

It maintained that Tinubu’s temporary absence should not be interpreted as an abandonment of his responsibilities as President.

The group also accused Atiku of attempting to create unnecessary political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It urged Nigerians to focus on the administration’s policies and performance rather than political disagreements surrounding the President’s travel.

The controversy comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the Federal Government.

The group said the President remained committed to his responsibilities and that official government activities would continue despite his temporary absence.

It urged political actors to avoid statements that could create unnecessary concerns among Nigerians.

The group also called on citizens to remain focused on national development and allow the appropriate constitutional mechanisms to function whenever the President is outside the country.
