GRIDLOCK GROUNDS LAGOS–IBADAN EXPRESSWAY

Heavy traffic brought parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to a standstill on Friday morning, with gridlock stretching from Longbridge through Magboro to nearby communities.

The congestion reportedly began around 7:30 a.m. after a fuel tanker obstructed the roadway near the Magboro bridge, disrupting traffic flow and triggering long queues of vehicles, especially outbound from Lagos.

Motorists described severe delays along the route, with some areas around Aseese and Mowe experiencing near standstill conditions. Although the obstruction was later reportedly cleared, movement remained slow due to bottlenecks and vehicles driving against traffic.

Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and other traffic management teams, were deployed to the scene to assist in clearing the obstruction and restoring normal flow.

Inbound traffic was less affected, but commuters still experienced intermittent delays as authorities worked to manage the situation and ease congestion.

Motorists have been advised to remain patient and comply with traffic directives while normal flow is gradually restored.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
