GOVERNOR OYEBANJI ASSERTS DIGITAL POSTCODE INITIATIVE WILL ACCELERATE EKITI STATE’S TRANSFORMATION INTO A REGIONAL TECHNOLOGY HUB
State government partners with NIPOST to roll out a comprehensive digital addressing system aimed at enhancing e-commerce, emergency response, and public service delivery across all local government areas
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has declared that the newly launched national digital postcode initiative will serve as a vital catalyst in transforming the state into a leading hub for the digital economy, innovation, and technological investment.
Speaking during a two-day stakeholder engagement and inception workshop in Ado-Ekiti, the governor emphasized that establishing accurate geospatial data and structured location addressing remains fundamental to expanding modern digital infrastructure.
Governor Oyebanji noted that every tech-driven service, ranging from last-mile logistics and e-commerce verification to emergency response and financial technology access, relies heavily on reliable physical addressing standards.
Details from the Ekiti State Bureau of Lands revealed that the state’s collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) began following initial engagements between the Ekiti State Geospatial Data Centre and postal authorities, culminating in Ekiti being selected as a pioneer pilot state for the nationwide rollout.
Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, explained that Ekiti was designated as a frontrunner due to its strong record in intellectual development, educational advancement, and proactive digital governance.
Stakeholders at the workshop, including traditional rulers, private sector partners, and local government chairmen, pledged full support for the address validation exercise, agreeing on operational roadmaps and community engagement strategies to ensure all physical structures across the state are accurately mapped into the system.
