Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, sacking all commissioners and other political appointees.

The Governor made this announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, confirming that the dissolution takes immediate effect.

According to the statement, Governor Fubara held a private valedictory session with members of his cabinet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

During the session, Fubara expressed gratitude to his outgoing commissioners for their contributions to the growth and development of Rivers State over the last two years.

He also urged citizens to embrace unity and support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

“I remain committed to serving the people of Rivers State with renewed vigour,” the governor reassured, while appreciating the public for their continuous support.

Earlier, the state government had cancelled the Independence Day parade initially scheduled for October 1, citing alignment with the Federal Government’s pronouncement.

The statement by Friday Dede, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau, noted that while the decision may cause inconvenience, it was taken in the overall interest of the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
