GOVERNMENT COLLEGE STUDENT WINS EKITI STATE QUIZ CONTEST

A student of Government College, Ado-Ekiti, has emerged victorious in the prestigious Ekiti State Inter-Secondary Schools Quiz Competition, showcasing exceptional academic prowess and putting the school in the limelight once again.

Master David Oluwaseun Adeyemi, a Senior Secondary School 2 student, clinched the top prize at the grand finale held on Thursday at the Ekiti State Pavilion, beating strong contenders from over 50 schools across the 16 local government areas. The competition, organised by the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, tested participants on Mathematics, English Language, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and Science and Technology.

Adeyemi scored an impressive 92 points to edge out the runner-up from Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, who scored 85 points. His comprehensive knowledge and quick thinking under pressure earned him a standing ovation from the audience.

Speaking after the victory, the elated winner dedicated his success to his teachers and parents. “I am grateful to God and to my teachers at Government College who prepared me adequately. This win shows that hard work and dedication pay off. I encourage my fellow students to take their studies seriously,” Adeyemi said.

The Principal of Government College, Mrs. Funmilayo Adebiyi, expressed immense pride in her student’s achievement. “David’s victory is a testament to the quality of education we provide. Government College continues to produce stars who excel in academics and beyond,” she noted.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Adebimpe Arogundade, who presented the trophy and cash prize of N500,000 along with books and a laptop to the winner, commended the initiative. “This competition is designed to promote healthy rivalry and deepen learning among our students. We are committed to nurturing talents that will drive the state’s development,” the commissioner stated.

The event also featured awards for best-performing schools and outstanding teachers. Stakeholders described the competition as a boost to efforts aimed at reviving academic excellence in public schools across Ekiti State.
