Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has directed security agencies to intensify proactive measures to protect lives and property before, during, and after the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, gave the directive on Monday during an expanded security meeting held in Damaturu. He urged security operatives to maintain a strong and visible presence across the state’s 17 local government areas while strengthening surveillance in border communities.

According to him, enhanced intelligence-driven patrols and improved collaboration among security agencies are essential to preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of the festive period.

“In a bid to curb insecurity, we must strengthen intelligence-led patrols and ensure effective synergy among all security formations to stop criminal elements from exploiting the festive season,” he said.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police for the Yobe State Command, Emmanuel Ado, said the gathering reviewed recent security incidents in neighbouring states and evaluated potential vulnerabilities within the state.

He also announced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles operating without number plates or those with concealed plates, noting that such practices pose significant security risks.

Ado, however, described the security situation in the state as relatively calm and assured residents that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
