Tech giant Google has joined in celebrating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary with a special doodle on its homepage.

The design, inspired by the green-white-green colours of the national flag and an eagle motif, honours Nigeria’s identity and resilience.

Clicking on the doodle directs users to curated content highlighting key historical facts and milestones in Nigeria’s journey to nationhood since gaining independence from Britain on October 1, 1960.

Meanwhile, in his Independence Day address, President Bola Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory, declaring that the “worst is over” following painful but necessary reforms.

The president cited recent economic indicators as signs of recovery, including:

4.23% GDP growth in Q2 2025 – the strongest in four years,

Inflation easing to 20.12%,

Rising foreign reserves, and

Increased oil production.

Tinubu also highlighted the distribution of ₦330 billion to eight million vulnerable households under the National Social Investment Programme and reaffirmed government’s commitment to accelerated infrastructure development.

He urged Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and cooperation, stressing that while differences are natural, unity and collective effort remain vital for national progress.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
