Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the appointment of three Commissioners-designate, two Special Advisers and four Senior Special Assistants as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s governance structure. The development was announced by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who said the appointments were intended to improve coordination and support the implementation of the administration’s development agenda.

The three Commissioners-designate are Dr Ahmed Wali Doho from Kwami Local Government Area, Nasiru Adamu Degri from Balanga Local Government Area and Dr Muhammad A. Bello from Gombe Local Government Area. Their names have been forwarded to the Gombe State House of Assembly for screening and approval, meaning their appointments will only become effective after confirmation by the lawmakers. Doho is expected to replace Engr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, who recently resigned after emerging as a member of the House of Representatives for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.

Degri is also being nominated to replace Engr. Bala Adams, who was recently selected as the running mate to Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state. The latest nominations come after the governor had earlier transmitted a larger list of commissioner nominees to the Assembly as part of moves to reconstitute the State Executive Council. The new nominees are therefore expected to undergo the legislative screening process before taking up their responsibilities within the state government.

In addition to the commissioner nominees, Governor Yahaya approved Abdulmalik Musa Jibrin and Mohammed Bashir Nuhu as Special Advisers. The governor also appointed Jibrin M. Ali, Sadiq Mohammed Abubakar, popularly known as BB Kumo, John Launa and Danlami Sanda as Senior Special Assistants II on Political and Community Engagement. The appointments of the Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants take immediate effect, according to the Secretary to the State Government.

The Gombe State Government said the appointments were made to enhance effective coordination and support the implementation of its development programmes. Governor Yahaya, who has been in office since 2019 and secured a second term in the 2023 governorship election, continues to operate through the State Executive Council and other political and administrative offices responsible for implementing government policies. The three Commissioners-designate will, however, have to secure approval from the State House of Assembly before their appointments can be finalised.
