Kumuyi Warns Against Pressure to Name Successor, Says God Will Decide

The General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has made it clear that he will not be pressured into naming his successor, insisting that only God will make that decision at the right time.

Speaking during a recent Bible study programme, the 83-year-old cleric responded to comments about church leadership succession, stressing that he is still active and committed to his pastoral duties.

Recalling a recent teaching where a speaker mentioned “there is no leadership without a successor” twice, Kumuyi said he found the emphasis unnecessary, especially while he remains in good health and actively serving.

“God will give a successor at His own time. You are not going to fight your shepherd or your pilot,” he said. “I reject any member, whether worker, choir member, or security personnel, who tries to control me. I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home.”

He further noted that his continued vigor in preaching the gospel should be seen as a blessing, not a reason to push him aside. “If God gives you a pastor still active at this age, with a good voice and strength to travel and preach, and you’re asking for a successor, it makes me think you’re tired of seeing me,” he added.

Kumuyi assured members that when the time comes, God will raise “a man after His own heart” to lead the church. For now, he remains focused on his mission and urged members to avoid actions that might seem like they want to drive him away.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
