GERMANY MOVES STUDENT VISA PROCESSING TO LAGOS VFS CENTRE

The government of Germany has announced that student visa applications in Nigeria will now be processed exclusively through a visa application centre in Lekki, Lagos.

In a notice, the German Embassy in Nigeria said applicants will no longer submit their documents at the consulate. Instead, they will be invited to a centre operated by VFS Global after securing an appointment through online registration.

The embassy explained that applicants would only visit the visa application centre once invited, marking a shift from the previous system where submissions were handled directly at the consulate.

The new arrangement, launched on March 25, 2026, by Deputy Consul General Gerald Wolf and VFS General Manager Operations Stephen Kubasu, is aimed at improving efficiency and streamlining the application process.

According to available guidelines, the Lekki centre will handle document submission, biometric data collection, and other related services on behalf of German missions in Nigeria.

The move comes amid rising interest in studying in Germany, which has recorded increasing numbers of international students in recent years, with over 400,000 enrolled as of the 2024/25 winter semester.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
