Nollywood superstar Genevieve Nnaji has fired back at a controversial tweet advising Igbo men to avoid marrying women from their own ethnic group.

The tweet suggested that Igbo men should look outside Nigeria, particularly East Africa, for wives to avoid being falsely accused of rape by Igbo women.

“Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of raping your daughter, better look outside for a wife… Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda and pick a damsel,” the X user wrote.

Genevieve, an Igbo woman from Mbaise, Imo State, did not hold back in her response:

“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”

While some argued that the original tweet was targeting false accusers, not all women, Nnaji stressed the dangers of broad stereotyping:

“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. ‘Not all women.’”

Her response has sparked discussion online, highlighting the importance of personal accountability and avoiding sweeping generalizations about any group of people.

Genevieve’s take serves as a reminder that blaming entire communities for individual actions can be harmful and unjust.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
